![]() As helmets go, it is attractive-though the Bicycling test staff agrees that it looks better in person than in Giro’s stock photography. It's comfortable, well ventilated and lightweight enough. Not so with the all-new Giro Helios helmet. If there was anything the Aether couldn't do, it was the price. The inclusion of their Spherical technology made for a road helmet that was light, safe, and breathed exceptionally. But if the claims that the Aires is everything the Aether was and more, it should be a seriously impressive helmet. We can’t say yet: That’s the price of launching a helmet in mid-January when Bicycling’s test team-located in Pennsylvania and Colorado-is bundled up with thick caps or riding indoors. However, the Aries does weigh a bit less than our sample Specialized S-Works Prevail III (290 grams) That weight is only slightly lighter than our sample Aether (289 grams) and heavier than our weights for the less expensive Helios ($250, 260 grams) and Eclipse ($250, 279 grams-all helmets size medium). Though its claimed weight is 270 grams, our sample weighs 283 grams (size medium). The Helios has a lower price and an expanded remit: whereas the Aether was designed and styled purely for. ![]() The one place where the Aires may come up a bit short is its weight. Price as reviewed: The Giro Helios Spherical is the US brand’s second road helmet to use Spherical MIPS protection, the first being the 269.99 Aether which we awarded a perfect score and which made our Editor’s Choice line-up in 2020. ![]()
